Boring temple
With the large number of casual World of Warcraft players, chances are you will find many players who are more interested in blissfully running around and skipping out on the higher-end content. If that is not your cup of tea, go find a real raiding guild. It takes a certain kind of player to not only be a leader, but to be able to take direction and put it towards being constructive. If you can not handle it, like this blogger's guild mates, you can wait around until Blizzard nerfs the bosses for you.
Mobuzz has officially shut down its site after 4 years of dishing out the news. That is not exactly what I was hoping for to start off this year's holiday season.
Game safely and enjoy the holiday for those of you who celebrate. I will be out the rest of the week.
A video game's self reference proves to be fatal for some players - While the examples of "breaking the fourth wall" in Metal Gear Solid 4 are abundant, I agree with the article author and have found the series to be generally humorous and do not consider their self-references to be out-of-character, so to say. Video games have it easy compared to other art forms.

lame bloggers are...
Ex-MUD creator, Richard Bartle, wrote up a blog post on how disappointed he was with a torture-related quest in World of Warcraft because you have only one option to complete the quest: zap an NPC with a little rod. You know what, Richard? I have two letters for you: qq. Last time I checked, you do not have to do any quest in World of Warcraft, and there are no quests that allow you more than one way to complete them. So, why you decided to harp on this one, I am not sure. What about all those quests that make you kill hundreds of defenseless animals and sentient creatures? Are you okay with those? I suppose you must be an animal killer then.
Also, what is up with the Horde character being the "misunderstood good guy?" Why does Richard automatically categorize Horde characters as evil? Just because they are not humans or more human-like like the other Alliance races does not make them "bad guys." Because they have grown up under the influence of different ancestors and have various backgrounds is what diversifies characters from one another, not make them inherently evil. Besides, last time I checked, Arthas was human; he did not turn out to be too "good" did he?

AAA is not just for automobiles
The explosion of game releases has calmed for at least one week. Hopefully you have stockpiled on games to play, or already have your Christmas listed filled-up because the only worth-while game out this week is Chrono Trigger for the Nintendo DS. Not that Iron Chef America: Supreme Cuisine does not sound great; well, actually it does not. Oh well, can not have triple-A games out every week.
Sony only wants to make shopping for overpriced electronics easier for you - By not allowing any price reductions on their products. How nice of them.

Price alert
Now is the time to start looking for those great online deals for gifts. Even if the only gifting you will be doing this year will be to yourself. Retail stores are most certainly not the only place one can find Black Friday deals. And, what could be better than being able to request your own deals? This year especially, you should expect to see many price drops on various items. You better buy this year, too, or else some of these stores may not be around to see 2009 through.

molecular instability
Microsoft releases yet another broken product. It sounds like the new XBox 360 experience is causing some issues, including the red ring of death. I wonder how long it will take them to fix this one. On a Sony note, they are going to start requiring games to support trophies when 2009 rolls around. With everyone implementing some sort of an achievement system, it will not be long before Nintendo does as well most likely. Also, who knew World of Warcraft's Wrath of the Lich King expansion would be the fastest-selling game of all time? Well, besides everyone.

Google has now introduced themes to Gmail, so you have the option of making your email unreadable. That sounds like a decent excuse for not getting back to someone, especially if it is work-related. This is a setting that has been available through iGoogle, the personalized Google search page, for awhile now. There are a variety of colored themes, some with background images, for users to choose from if they are looking to change the default Gmail interface. While I appreciate the optional more-personalized email experience, it probably is not too difficult to implement with CSS.

What is worse than listening to people tell you to not eat animals? A video game recommending you to "Go Veg." In this PETA propaganda title, players cook a Thanksgiving Day turkey in the most violent and gruesome way ever. It is nothing like making a frozen turkey at home for the holiday. How many kids will use this as an excuse to perform cruel acts upon animals; everyone knows video games have that kind of effect on children. While I do not condone violence against animals, the game is fairly entertaining.

Next week will include the biggest American shopping day, Black Friday, and in preparation this week a multitude of titles are being released. Left 4 Dead and Animal Crossing: City Folk are finally out, along with expansion packs for EverQuest 2, Lord of the Rings Online, Spore, and Neverwinter Nights 2. We also have the Bolt movie game, Tomb Raider Underworld, Castlevania Judgement, and Sonic Unleashed although I am still unsure about that game. What's on your list? What inspires?
So apparently, the Massively site decided to take a look at World of Warcraft and figure out what games inspired Blizzard to do some of the things they did with World of Warcraft; like the action bar, factions, and trade skills. Honestly, it sounds more like they just tried to pull a gallery together of random video games. I will admit that the achievement system is not the most subtly stolen feature, but battlegrounds coming from Battlefield 1942? And, correct me if I am wrong, but the idea that Warcraft is based on humans (a.k.a. Alliance) fighting the orcs (a.k.a. Horde)? How can anyone convolute that into "factions being based on Asheron's Call?" Why do we not just ask Blizzard where their inspiration came from?
Merry Christmas Sun Microsystems employees, we got you unemployment - Do you like it? We knew you would not.
Valve attempts to seduce a hacker into the US - It's a trap!

Just because the infidelity is virtual does not mean that it does not hurt, right? - Oh the irony; the downfall of a Second Life-based marriage is Second Life.

wrath of the... yeah, you know
With the midnight launch of World of Warcraft's expansion Wrath of the Lich King last night, I doubt that the news buzz about it will die down anytime soon. For the 11 million of the 6.7 billion people of the world who are playing the game, enjoy.
For everything you could ever need to know to get started in the new expansion, Massively has provided several 101 classes on getting around, leveling, gear, and instances. Try not to get overly excited now, you might hurt yourself.
Along with last night's (or this morning's) release, Blizzard has openly discussed paid major character changes. Do not like your face? Skin tone? Change it in exchange for some real money. While specific features may not have been confirmed, some believe they will allow players to change their race even. If they keep this up, maybe next they will allow you to do a paid class change. Although, I can see an intense quest chain including lengthy "training sessions" in order for someone to move over to a new class. If done right, I think that could be interesting.

addictive behavioral problems
Chinese parents were poisoned by their mentally instable son last year, and he is sitting on death row for it. So, what does he do in attempt to save himself? Blame his video game addition, to the MMO Legend in particular. Obviously, he somehow heard about the new official Chinese Internet usage disorder and is trying to take advantage of it. Hopefully that will not fool the Chinese officials on his case. I wonder, what does this article tell you about the parents who ate another meal with their crazy kid after he poisoned them once? Perhaps the evidence was unknown at the time, but still. Also, why would the kid kill his parents who were giving him free money to play this game, albeit unknowingly? No wonder they claim he has deep psychological issues.
Lego blocks are no longer exclusively made - I definitely want to buy some bundles of unbranded Lego blocks. People better get into production now. I would think more people could get creative with the little plastic blocks if they were less expensive; like this married pair of gamers.

Wrath obsession
World of Warcraft raids are finally winding down. Most guilds made their last push over the past weekend to defeat any Burning Crusade bosses they may have otherwise not gotten to yet. The Scourge regrouped and came to lay waste to the Horde capital of Orgrimmar. Garrosh Hellscream descended into Orgrimmar as well to confront Thrall regarding the exploration of Northrend. Hellscream demanded that the Horde charge straight into battle immediately, while Thrall retained that a strategic move is best. They chose to duke it out, and Thrall loss...

The Buzz
This is a huge week for World of Warcraft players. Certainly there will plenty of people calling in "sick" to work on Thursday after spending 8 hours in Northrend nonstop. If you were one of the few to pick up a Collector's Edition before they were sold out around the globe, consider yourself lucky. The rest of us have little to no chance of getting a mini frostwyrm pet like yourself. While it is doubtful that you have not determined whether or not you are going to purchase the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, be sure to read the Gamestop ad. It will most certainly sway you one way or the other. If you are not one of the 11 million subscribers of World of Warcraft, you can check out Mirror's Edge, Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, Call of Duty: World at War, Eternal Poison, Sacred 2, or even My Stop Smoking Coach. But, what are the chances of you not being a World of Warcrafter?
Careful what levels you submit through LittleBigPlanet - Users should not get upset that their levels run the risk of being deleted as Sony is more than allowed that right. But I would hope that their regulatory removals would be based upon some sort of code of conduct.

Razor-sharp
Massively is just going on and on with their giveaways this week. Someone might get the idea that it is Christmas already. If you have yet to check out Warhammer Online yet because you do not want to buy it, then post away for a free Collector's Edition. All you have to do is state what race you wish to dedicate yourself to. And even if you do not play Guild Wars, you will surely love their Guild Wars-themed Razer mouse giveaway. All you have to do is tell Massively why you love them so much. Could it possibly be because they love giving away gamer-related stuff? I think so.
XBox 360 buttons are better on the back
Nick Channon goes on about Mirror's Edge uniqueness - Do not forget to check out the demo on either the PS3 or the XBox 360. Not to mention, the final trailer has been released. Has it tickled you pink yet?
To influence sales of the new Diablo clone, Sacred 2 will allow you to share the full game with others as a sort of demo - Interesting idea, but why bother allowing the entire game to be shared if it will only be for 1 day? I think it would be easier to continue to allow a downloadable demo from the developer's website.

the scourge are nearly upon us
More numbers are out today regarding the massive return to the lands of Azeroth. More than 2/3rds of World of Warcraft ditchers for Age of Conan have chosen to return, and nearly half of the same from for Warhammer Online have returned. Arthas and his horde of undead are prevailing in this MMO war, and it should come as no surprise whatsoever. See you in Northrend next week.
Additionally, the US Army wants to take part in the World of Warcraft action as well. While they claim it is for artificial intelligence training purposes, we all know that means they want to find some workaround for their gold-farming bots. Nice try!

Gamer Giveaways
Who loves geeky prizes more than competitive gamers? Today we have two contests for the MMO Players. One is a Wrath of the Lich King race to level 80 for the World of Warcraft players who care more for a brand-new computer than they do a new game's expansion. The quests, lore, and raiding will all be there after installing the game on their new computer if they win, right? On the other side of the MMO ring we have a Sony-related giveaway with a much easier-to-accomplish requirement. The magnanimously-awesome website Massively is offering up 3-months worth of SOE MMO game time and a nice hefty pile of swag just for your measly comment on their website. Could it be any easier?

Welcome to the month of Thanksgiving. It is time to plan out that Christmas list of all the games that are coming out in the next two months, or maybe pick up one of Intel's new quad-core processors. This week you have James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace, Valkyria Chronicles, Resistance 2, and Gears of War 2 to look forward to.
