For players coming from the former Metroid Primes on the Game Cube, the third installment of said series will have a unique feel on the Wii.  While the first two games placed you behind the mask of Samus, this new game will place you inside of her suit.

There is no doubt that this game belongs on the Wii.  The Wiimote gives the player complete control over Samus; her movement reacting with every jab, swipe, and shake of the controls.  This sort of power takes a little while to get used to, even for previous Prime players.Wiimote Puzzle
The Wiimote gives the player complete control over Samus' actions.

Unlike the previous Metroid Prime games with their teaser introductions, in Metroid Prime 3 Samus is not stripped of all of her abilities.  The player gets to start the game with the morph ball, charge beam, and space jump, which allows the initial puzzles to be minorly more complicated and fun than previous games’ introductions.  Within the first hour or two of play, Samus picks up missiles, a grapple hook, and a new suit; pretty hot starting point.  The grapple is quite exciting to use in conjunction with the nunchuk; it adds extra depth to solving puzzles and defeating enemies.  The good-old scanning visor is back, and no doubted the player will have plenty of opportunities to shirk the storyline responsibilities and instead analyze every piece of scrap metal debris lying around.

I was surprised and eager to find that there are other people in the game to interact with.  This was one of the more drastic differences separating Metroid Prime 3 from its predecessors.  No longer are the only Space Pirate
Creatures are lashing out using dark energy, including space pirates.
sentient beings you run into dead, dying, or space pirates.  Not to mention there are other bounty hunters; not that they can compare to Samus’ badassness.  Still nice to have some live bodies around that are not, necessarily, trying to kill you for once.

The story is a continuation of the previous games and concerns Samus’ Phazon contamination and ongoing battle with Dark Samus.  Phazon corruption is evident everywhere and in everything.  Creatures are lashing out using dark energy, and in turn Samus can do the same.  In this game, Samus succumbs partially to the dark Phazon power in order to pack a harder punch against various enemies and bosses.  Sometimes it is necessary to fight fire with fire, and Samus is definitely not afraid to get her hands dirty.

Metroid Prime 3 is an improvement over Metroid Prime 2, and a great addition to the entire Metroid game line.  Thank you, Retro Studios, for yet another compelling and enjoyable video game.  One can only imagine the trouble that Samus will undoubtedly run into in the future.

TLDR: One of the most anticipated games for the Wii comes with a bright new array of puzzle-solving coupled with intense, in-your-face first person interaction.
